Commissioning without compromise
A bespoke process shaped around exceptional materials, specialist artisans, and uncompromising technical oversight.
A quieter form of luxury
Griffin & Sloane is not a conventional retailer. We operate as a commissioning house, bringing together exceptional materials, specialist artisans and technical experts to realise jewellery and timepieces of uncommon character.
Some clients arrive with a complete vision. Others begin with only a question.
The private consultation
This stage is less about choosing from what exists and more about understanding what should exist. The intended wearer, personal significance, aesthetic direction, technical ambition and practical constraints all shape the brief.
Concept and direction
Ideas are translated into viable designs through sketches, references, material studies, renders and technical discussion. Proportion, ergonomics, finishing, gemstone layout and long-term integrity are considered from the outset.
Exceptional materials
Gemstones, precious metals, specialist dials and decorative elements are selected for more than beauty alone. Each material must be suitable for the design, the setting, the mechanics and the life the piece is expected to lead.
Specialist collaboration
Many hands. One standard.
No single workshop can master every discipline at the highest level. Each commission draws upon a carefully selected combination of setters, engravers, enamellers, dial makers, case makers, movement specialists and technical experts assembled specifically for the project.
Griffin & Sloane oversees the process as a whole, maintaining consistency, technical compatibility and fidelity to the original vision from first sketch to final presentation.
Development and manufacture
Complex commissions often require prototyping, engineering refinement, testing and adjustment before final manufacture. In high horology, aesthetics, mechanics, acoustics, ergonomics and finishing standards must coexist within exacting tolerances.
Presentation and legacy
The completion of a commission marks the beginning of its life rather than the end of a transaction. Finished pieces are presented privately and accompanied, where appropriate, by documentation, provenance records and long-term servicing guidance.
