Bespoke watchmaking,
commissioned privately

Griffin & Sloane commissions bespoke timepieces on a personal, private basis. Each watch begins with intent, not inventory, and is realised through a small number of exceptional independent craftsmen working at the highest level of their disciplines.

We do not operate a catalogue, nor do we sell watches publicly.
Every commission is discussed, specified, and executed one-to-one.

Our focus is on custom dials and cases, where artistic expression and structural integrity meet. Stone setting may be incorporated where appropriate. Movement customisation is reserved for exceptional commissions and is not offered as a standard service.

How our commissions are defined

How our commissions are defined

A commissioned watch is governed by scope and restraint.

Not every technique is appropriate to every piece. Each commission is shaped by judgement and restraint.

We work with clients to define what is essential, what is possible, and what should remain untouched. The result is a watch that is deliberate in its design, coherent in its execution, and enduring in its relevance.

How our commissions are defined

The disciplines we commission

Hand engraving

Hand engraving is treated as sculptural work, cut directly into precious metal and developed specifically for the dial or case. Motifs are designed for depth, rhythm, and legibility, balancing ornament with structure rather than surface display.

The approach follows classical European traditions of fine jewellery engraving, where precision and restraint take precedence over flourish.

Custom scope includes motif design, relief, depth, and symbolic detailing.

Guilloché

Guilloché is executed using traditional rose engines and straight-line engines, with patterns selected for structural discipline rather than novelty. Where enamel is applied, engraving is calibrated to support repeated high-temperature firings without loss of clarity.

The objective is light modulation beneath enamel, not surface decoration.

Custom scope includes pattern geometry, scale, spacing, and enamel integration.

Enamelling

Enamelling introduces colour with permanence, depth, and control. Techniques are selected for structural suitability rather than visibility.

Grand feu enamel is used where durability and depth matter most. Cloisonné supports heraldic and symbolic work through controlled partitions. Champlevé provides robustness via enamelled recesses cut into solid gold. Painted enamel is reserved for exceptional commissions.

Custom scope includes technique selection, colour development, and symbolic or pictorial execution.

Gem setting

Gem setting is treated as a design discipline, not embellishment. Stones are selected for colour, cut, and character, then proportioned and integrated to suit the geometry and intent of the watch.

Access extends across coloured diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, rubies, and other exceptional stones, sourced internationally and set to standards associated with fine jewellery.

Custom scope includes stone selection, sourcing, cut, setting technique, and density.

The craftsmen we work with

The craftsmen we work with

Griffin & Sloane collaborates with a small number of independent masters and specialist ateliers, selected for their judgement, consistency, and depth of experience.

These include senior watchmakers, engravers, enamellers, and gemstone specialists operating at the highest level of their respective fields.

Each client commission is governed by Griffin & Sloane, from specification through execution, ensuring coherence across disciplines and accountability throughout the process.

Examples of realised work

From time to time, we may present selected finished watches as examples of our work. Some of these pieces may remain available to purchase, subject to discussion. These works are shown as precedent and illustration, not as a catalogue. Availability is limited and never guaranteed.

Beyond watchmaking

In addition to bespoke watches, Griffin & Sloane also commissions high jewellery and provides access to exceptional stones. These capabilities follow the same principles of restraint, judgement, and discretion.
